Artistic Statement

Currently, I am seeking to obtain an internship position with the University of South Florida's Art in Health Program. I am investigating and researching careers in art history and art health such as art therapy. Currently, my art represents skill sets taught in college level art classes and my own artistic endeavors. I have a passion for art that spans beyond the museum and the studio. The experience provided by an Art in Health internship will give me the honor of sharing the program's mission of improving the awareness of health care students and demonstrating the importance of art/art history related skills across all disciplines.

Recent Pieces

I have a passion for watercolor and floral designs. Below are sketches and watercolor test paper that I did for a possible textile design piece. This is a watercolor and pen/ink design. Daisies, a pink rose, gardenias, a chrysanthemum, snapdragons, a marigold, and an orange blossom are pictured. All of these flowers have been a part of and impacted my life in a memorable manner.

 My Secret Garden

I started the following series in Drawing 1 during the Spring 2013 term, and I completed the series in September 2013.  The model for this design is Gian Lorenzo Bernini's Head of an Angel c.1655. The original assignment was to create a series of three pieces with the same subject in different ways. I decided to create an outline, a negative sketch, and a shaded piece with a range of values. As time progressed, I studied different rules of portraits. During my research I came across geometric and watercolor portraits that inspired me to continue the series. I entitled the series The Phases of Bernini's Angel. The pieces are made from pencil, pen and ink, and watercolor. They demonstrate the design process, negative and positive formats, shading and values, and line variation. My Humanities and Art History courses in college inspired me to document the stages of a sculpture from the sculptor's beginning stages, to a well crafted and realistic piece, the fractionization of the piece due to time, and when the civilization is washed away after geological changes and natural disasters.

The followng piece is a master copy of Van Gogh's Irises. I divided the original print of the piece, used vine charcoal to arrange the composition on the canvas board, and then used oil paints to create the painting.

Fall 2013

The following piece is a landscape oil painting completed in Painting 1. I photographed the reference picture in a park with "twin" lakes.

Interior Design Projects

My love for textile design started at an early age when a friend of the family would take me to her interior design firm and allow me to sort through shelves of wallpaper and fabric samples. In my junior year of high school I was enrolled in two interior design courses. The pieces I completed in the interior design program demonstrate my ability to design interiors and use textile pieces that are not only aesthetically pleasing by themselves but also enlighten interiors. Below are examples of some of my best projects.

Fall 2012,The guidelines from this project were to design your ideal bedroom while applying basic bedroom and bathroom dimensions, create list of clearances and sizes, provide a circle diagram, and a floor plan with dimensions. My design plan for this master bedroom and bathroom was to utilize dark woods, mirrors, crystal, glass, neutrals, rich jewel stones, and an ornate Persian rug. The design originated with my desire to use the Persian rug design and colors ,pictured on the left, with light and elegant furniture pieces and materials.

December 2012,The "Eclectic Beach side Bungalow" is the architectural and interior design home that I crafted from start to finish. I researched bungalow room layout, did many copies of the design on trace paper, copied the design on ink, and designed the entire interior of the home. I had to create a narrative about the clients along with guidelines my instructor provided for the family inventory and environmental inventory.

Spring 2013, The assignment for this interior was to create an extravagant dream bedroom. I have always wanted to travel to Mykonos, Greece, and I love landscape architecture. I combined my enthusiasm for Greek architecture with interior landscape design by adding an interior plant wall. I also included pieces with natural wood color and texture, floral  and butterfly elements, natural light, and textured stone to truly bring the outdoors in. This design includes a floor plan, photographs, and an elevation.

May 2013, This was my final exam project for Design Services. I designed a three story barn renovation based off of the traditional colors of the Swedish Dalecarlian horse and Swedish interior design. My fascination with Swedish language, art, food, and landscapes started when I did a report on Sweden in the sixth grade. In Design Services, I was finally able to translate my love for the Swedish culture into a design. The challenge for this project was to combine all of the client's needs in a small interior space while applying the elements and principles of design. Each floor of the design are the minimum dimensions for interior spaces. The design includes a detailed color floor plan, an elevation, a perspective, photographs of interior products, and material samples.

Foundational Studies: Pencil, Charcoal, Chalk, Ink, Value Studies,Pattern, and Texture

The foundation of all art is the ability to interpret thoughts and observations through drawing. In Drawing 1 and Art 2-D, I practiced and have excelled in many of these techniques. Since I have a history in equestrian studies, many of my pieces include equine subject matter.

Spring 2013, This piece is a charcoal, chalk, and pencil rendition of In continuation, The Rear View by Peter Paul Rubens . This piece was displayed in the Brevard Community College, now Eastern Florida State College, spring art show and I won the Liberal Arts Award. I entitled my piece A Familiar Frame.

Spring 2013, This is a still life drapery study in chalk.

Summer 2013, This Art 2-D assignment demonstrates one point perspective and the juxtaposition of contrasting or unusual elements. The pen and ink drawing pictures the combination of a city and a glacier environment.

One of my favorite techniques is collage. This Art 2-D piece demonstrates the careful and well thought out planning that I use to make all of my pieces the best they can be.  I started out with a picture of my facial profile. I sectioned the picture, drew a negative version of my face, and then diagrammed the light, medium, and dark values of the photograph. After this, I spent time combing through countless magazines to find black and white text to represent the photograph's value pattern.

Summer 2013, In Art 2-D, I was instructed to create and design frame from three organic lines and one straight line, use pattern, and demonstrate texture. The piece in the upper half of the photograph is a permanent marker pieces that uses circles and triangles to create an organic pattern. The piece in the bottom half of the photograph is crafted from permanent maker, crayon, pen, pencil, and feathers to show a close-up of an African Grey Parrot.
